“NJERALATH KALASRAMAM”
A Hermitage of Austere Aspirations in Art.
A hope getting concrete shapes.
Though twelve long years have been wasted, allured in the false promises of the lethargic government mechanism, it’s now getting ready fast.
They come and go; and still continue frequenting the house of the old maestro of Sopanasangeetham Sri Njeralath Ramapoduval, showering a bouquet of promises and never doing anything helpful for the family of the artist, towards the formation of the trust or towards constructing a memorial for him.
The family members of this master musician has no complaints towards any one, politicians or the ministers or the so called sentinels of art and cultural heritage, in not materializing the hope of constructing a memorial to this deserving artist, cherished not only by the family members but also by the whole music lovers of Kerala, though a latent lamentation over the waste of time that too to the tune of twelve long years has been subtly soliloquized.
Twelve long years….The loss can never be replenished.
Litigation against those who have given promises in writing, though possible is construed as an unwanted endeavour by the members Poduval’s family.
Let’s forget what happened, let’s close those sad chapters forever.
Now those austere aspirations of the family members of Ramapoduval and art-lovers of the region is getting concrete shapes thanks to the efforts of myriads well wishers of the family and to the magnanimity of a selfless soul called Kalyanikkutty Amma.
A body called “Njeralath Ramapoduval Public Charitable Trust” is formed with Sri Kalyanikkutty Amma who donated 16 cents of land from her small pasture for the construction of the Njeralath memorial as the sole member of the board of trustees apart form the family members of Sri Ramapoduval.
Kalyanikkutty Amma by her magnanimity has slapped on the face of the political hypocrisy of the men in the upper echelons of our society. Let’s bow down before such souls.
The place where from the trust operates -at Valampur in Angadippuram- is named “Kalyanippara” now and it’s here the trust is constructing “Njeralath Kalashramam” a hermitage for austere aspirations in art.
The government has acknowledged the names of Sopanasangeetham and Ramapoduval in myriad government publications, even though they have been reluctant in extending any sort of help to the family of this gifted temple artist.
The controversy aroused by the announcement of Sri Njeralath Harigovind another noted Sopanasangeetham artist and the sixth son of Ramapoduval, to auction off the “Idaykka” the sublime musical instrument used by Ramapoduval to raise funds for the construction of the memorial, reached many ears, infused into many minds and provoked many souls.
It’s then that the public came to know that the government has not extended any help to the family members of Ramapoduval, not even a pension for his bereft wife.
Men came in flocks, offered their hands and promised to work in unison for the materialization of an auspicious hope of constructing a multifaceted centre for the promotion of various art forms of the region.
